Work With Me
In-person and remote options
My office is conveniently located in the NOMAD area of Manhattan within a five-minute walk from B/D/F/M and Q/N/R/W subway lines.
Benefits of
in-person sessions
Office space provides a consistent container and opportunity to be fully seen, witnessed, and sensed as a person in-body. A co-created embodied field of in-person sessions adds an extra layer of safety that is crucial for processing of trauma as well as deep somatic and relational work.
Full privacy
Fewer interruptions or distractions, and no internet or signal concerns.
According to the American Psychological Association (APA), while remote therapy is convenient, it is still very new. Current data “hasn’t yet shown that stand-alone therapy online or via texting is effective for everyone in every situation.” In some cases, remote therapy is not recommended.
Insurance
I am an out-of-network provider licensed as a mental health counselor, and most insurance companies reimburse a portion of my service fees after the deductible is met. If your out-of-network benefits cover mental health services, a superbill receipt is available on a monthly basis to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Here are my reasons for not working with insurance companies as in-network provider:
I strive to provide comprehensive and holistic care to my patients. Session frequency and duration of treatment should be based on your unique needs as opposed to being imposed by the generalized guidelines of insurance companies.
It is my professional value to work in a non-stigmatizing manner. I respect the ways in which my patients creatively adjusted to their unique life circumstances. Insurance companies require therapists to assign a diagnostic label. While some people find having a diagnosis relieving, others feel pathologized, stigmatized, and reduced by the diagnosis.
I believe that people should have a freedom of choice when it comes to their mental health care. For in-network services, insurance companies often require a rigid treatment plan in addition to a diagnostic label. It is also important to know that diagnosis history is stored in a permanent medical record and may in the future impact your health and life insurance policy rates.
Here are the questions to ask your insurance company to find out about out-of-network reimbursement:
Do you have out-of-network mental health benefits?
What is your out-of-network deductible, coinsurance rate, and annual out of pocket max?
Is there any limitation on a number of psychotherapy sessions per year?
Does your insurance plan require a preauthorization prior to sessions with a therapist?
Practice Policies
Individual therapy sessions - 45 minutes
Jungian analysis and Psychedelic Analysis & Integration - 50 minutes
Group therapy sessions - 90 minutes
Payment
Payment is expected the day of the appointment, unless an alternative payment arrangement has been negotiated prior to the session.
Accepted payment methods: Venmo, Zelle, cash, and checks.
Patient agrees to be financially responsible for all charges whether or not they are covered by insurance.
Sliding Scale
I reserve a few spots for sliding scale patients on a case-by-case basis.
Priority for a sliding scale fee is offered in the circumstances of 1) unforeseen loss of reliable income and other hardship; 2) no out-of-network benefits; and/or 3) a single income household or a household with a combined annual income of $75,000 or less.
Cancelation Policy
Once a mutually agreed upon weekly session time is established, we enter an agreement of commitment to your therapeutic process. Meaning, I will be holding this time and container exclusively for you, and I will not offer it to anyone else.
Session time is an important therapeutic boundary.
Cancellation notice has to be provided with no less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled session time.
Patient agrees to pay a full session fee if a cancellation notice is given within less than 48 hours. Please note that insurance health plans do not pay for missed appointments and these charges will be entirely a patient's responsibility.
Communication outside of the clinical hour
I attempt to return calls, texts, and emails within 24 hours, Mondays – Fridays. I do not return calls, texts, or emails on weekends.
In case of an acute mental health emergency, please call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, call Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or text 988.
Due to the importance of patient's confidentiality and the importance of minimizing dual relationships, I do not accept friend or contact requests from current or former patients on any social networking site (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc). I believe that adding patients as friends or contacts on social media can compromise confidentiality and privacy. It may also blur the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship.
Electronic communication
Please keep in mind that communications via email and text are not secure. Although it is unlikely, there is a possibility that information you include in an email can be intercepted and read by other parties besides the person to whom it is addressed.
Superbills and other documentation pertinent to treatment are exchanged through a HIPAA-compliant patient portal.
Supervision
Occasionally, I may need to consult with other professionals in their areas of expertise in order to provide the best possible treatment for my patients. Information about a patient may be shared in this context without using their name or any other identifying details.
Termination
Ending relationships can be difficult. Therefore, it is important to have a termination process in order to achieve closure of a therapeutic process. The length of termination depends on the length and intensity of the treatment.
If a patient fails to schedule an appointment for three consecutive weeks - unless other arrangements have been made in advance - for legal and ethical reasons, I must consider our professional relationship discontinued.
